CANDACE JOB
CLOWN - PERFORMER - CREATOR
Hi, my name is Candace Job and I’m a physical theatre performer, creator, clown, and puppeteer. I was born and raised in Mohkinstsis, colonially known as Calgary, on Treaty 7 territory.
I received my primary training at The Commedia School, an international academy in Copenhagen, Denmark. Grounded in the pedagogical methods of Jacques Lecoq, Carlo Mazzone, and Moshe Feldenkrais, the school has provided a rich foundation for my artistic practice. I later went on to finish my Bachelor of Arts and my Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta.
In addition to my physical theatre training, I am a graduate of Improv Comedy Copenhagen [ICC], which follows the pedagogy of IO Chicago. With nine years of experience in improvisation, I have honed my skills in playfulness, imagination, and active listening.
I believe in the community-building potential of art and seek to infuse this ethos into all of my projects. I am most interested in the transformative power of creative play and collaboration, and how this can empower artists, build communities, and challenge conventional narratives. Discovering what can be created from the space in-between collaborators is one of the most exciting parts of devising work, often unlocking something that transcends beyond words. I view artists as architects of worlds that awaken a sense of emotion from the viewer, transporting them momentarily through a collective breathe.
