The absolute worst thing you can do in a scene is be apathetic”
— Del Close

Candace has practiced improvisation for seven years now

Candace started improvising when she was 18 after attending a workshop from the Notorious UIG. Through the University Improv Groups (UIG) platform Candace grew her basic improv vocabulary and skillset. She had the opportunity to perform at their annual improv festival, held in Edmonton, three years in a row. She has also participated in the Best of the West Improv festival (Calgary), Copenhagen International Improv Festival (Copenhagen), and DAS Improv Festival (Berlin).

DEVIATION

While living in Copenhagen Candace primarily performed at Improv Comedy Copenhagen. She completed all levels of their training program, which is inspired by IO's pedagogy. She then went on to perform bi-weekly at the theatre with her improv group, Standard Deviation. As a part of this group she received invaluable coaching from improvisers such as Jay Sukow (Second City Chicago), Rob Norman (Second City Toronto) and Brian Uretta (UCB). She is currently attending jams and workshops with Hong Kong Troupe, Rooftop Improv, and looks forward to finding improv in every city she goes to.

Improvisation is a huge part of Candace's training because she finds the skills useful in life as well as highly transferable to scripted theatre. The amount of listening, accepting, and collaborating that happens in improv gives an invaluable skill set while in a rehearsal space. The importance of listening to what was just offered, and giving your emotional response to that, is highly undervalued.
