ABOUT THE SHOW

In the tallest house in the biggest city lives Mr. Happy.
Mr. Happy likes to:
Explore
Stargaze
And
Eat cake.
Not necessarily in that order.
CLASH BANG! One day, a Lemon Lady moves into the apartment below Mr. Happy. She doesn’t seem very friendly at first glance. Or second. Or even third. But Mr. Happy does not give up hope of making a friend! With the help of the romantic, singing pastry chef Kurt, a very special cake, and the most beautiful stars in the sky, Mr. Happy eventually makes his way through the Lemon Lady’s tough exterior.
Join us on this colorful exploration of friendship, connection, and how to let new people into our lives.

Production History

The Impeccable Mr.Happy is a two-person children’s show that had its premiere at the Vildskud Festival in August 2019. It is a devised piece by Ellen Paulig and Candace Job. We aimed to bring to life the beautiful Swedish-Finnish children’s story in a physically and visually engaging way and make it accessible for all children in Copenhagen to enjoy. The show itself is primarily physical, using storytelling and shadow theatre, with a voice-over storyteller who helps to transform the space into a live storybook.

  • Created by: Ellen Paulig and Candace Job

  • Sound: Gonca Ozkan

  • Dramaturg: Ida Janku Ravn Homilius

  • Cast and Crew (2019): Ellen Paulig, Candace Job

The show is based on Malin Kivelä's children’s book, Den förträfflige herr Glad, with inspiration from the beautiful illustrations done by Linda Bondestam. Kivelä and Bondestam have been so gracious to grant us the rights to develop this project, and for that, we are incredibly thankful! It was a delight to help tell their story through theatre.
